SOUTH HAMPSHIRE LRT PHASE 1 ROUTING

FAREHAM <> GOSPORT

Trams will service Fareham town centre from the railway station, in a single one way loop running along West Street to the bus station, and then along the verge of Western Way. The tramway goes up the ramp at Fareham Station, Prague Junction is demolished. Stop outside the station entrance, then down a single track section to pass UNDER the Railtrack lines and up again on the west side, through where the pallett company is at the moment, then double track, new bridge over the Avenue and on to the Fareham - Gosport former railway alignment. From Fareham railway station the trams will then use the disused railway line down to Forton Field in Gosport, opposite St Vincent College. Any existing cycleway and/or footpath running alongside the proposed route will remain in place after construction.

> GOSPORT<

Trams will then run along Forton Road and Mumby Road, sharing the road with other traffic, and then turn into North Cross Street and into Gosport High Street. From the police station the trams will run along South Street to the tunnel. The tunnel will be a submerged tube type, and will be approximately 1 km long. A “submarine” tunnel is appropriate given the proximity of the Royal Navy Submarine Museum!

GOSPORT <> PORTSMOUTH

In Portsmouth they will run from the Hard Interchange along Queen Street and Edinburgh Road before stopping outside Portsmouth and Southsea railway station at the bottom of Commercial Road.
